The Story
San Diego-based musician Matthew Phillips, the rising pop sensation from Southern California, continues to captivate audiences with his infectious melodies and heartfelt storytelling. Pairing electronic elements, cinematic soundscapes and classic hook-filled lyrics that breathe new life into the alternative genre. Blending Rock, Pop and EDM, Phillips is carving a truly unique lane. Matthew's guitar playing has caught the attention of top guitar manufacturers in the music industry including Fender, Ernie Ball, Taylor, and Seymour Duncan.
Following the success of his 2023 singles "So in Love" and "Till It's Over," the official music video for "Till It's Over" struck virality with over 500,000 views and was filmed live at the House of Blues in downtown San Diego. Lights filled the room in what can only be described as a captivating moment of unity among those in attendance. Phillips went on to win "Best Pop Artist" at the San Diego Music Awards in both 2024 and 2025.
On August 9, 2025, Phillips celebrated the release of his debut album, "Till It's Over," at the Bornemann Theatre, where the performance was recorded. That live recording was later released as "Till It's Over (Live from the Bornemann Theatre)" on October 15 while opening for American Idol winner David Cook.
As of 2026, Matthew shows no signs of letting up. He shared the stage with Jason Mraz at a benefit concert that helped raise more than $45,000 for the TERI Campus of Life, a nonprofit serving adults with special needs. On July 1, Phillips headlined a performance at the San Diego County Fair, where he released "Battlefield of Love," the first single from his highly anticipated second album, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his musical career. He will also perform at the Dragonfly Festival at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido alongside Eric Gales, Danielle Nicole, and Ruthie Foster, before returning to the legendary Belly Up in Solana Beach on October 28, 2026, opening for Howie Day.
With performances spanning legendary venues, major music festivals, and international stages, Matthew continues to raise the bar in his musical pursuits.
